Hereditary and congenital disorders are conditions present at birth (whether or not they show symptoms or signs) that may cause serious medical problems over the lifetime of the pet resulting in very expensive treatment. Most pet insurance providers exclude or severely limit coverage for hereditary and congenital disorders, leaving the pet owner to foot a lofty veterinary bill. Trupanion covers all essential conditions so that you can spend more time taking care of your pet.

Although hereditary and congenital disorders are present at birth, Trupanion does not automatically exclude them as pre-existing, unlike some competitors. We only consider a condition as pre-existing if the clinical symptoms were present before your pet was enrolled or during the waiting period.
