What isn’t covered by Trupanion?

While we’d love to be able to cover everything, there are unfortunately some things not covered by a Trupanion policy:

Exam fees and taxes, where applicable
Wellness and routine care (flea and tick control, spay/neuter, vaccinations)
Pre-existing conditions
Preventable conditions (certain parasites, dental conditions that arose when routine veterinary cleanings were not done, etc.)

Certain alternative therapies and treatment types are also excluded unless the Recovery and Complementary Care Rider* is added to the policy prior to the onset of any condition to be treated with the alternative therapies. See applicable policy overview for details.

How do I know what conditions aren’t covered for my pet?

When you sign your pet up for Trupanion, you will receive a Medical Record Summary that details your pet’s health history. This report also lists any pre-existing conditions specific to your pet. These conditions will not be covered, so you can rest easy knowing what will be.
