What’s the oldest age a pet can be enrolled?
You can enroll your pet any time with Trupanion before their 14th birthday. Pets enrolled prior to age 14 can nevertheless enjoy full coverage for life.
Wondering why age 14 is the cutoff? We love pets at any age, but we do have to be reasonable. Generally speaking, older pets often come with higher monthly cost. This is because the conditions they face are usually more frequent and more expensive. After closely examining veterinary data, we chose age 14 because it is on the higher side of a pet’s average lifetime expectancy. We also wanted to give pet parents ample time to sign up their pets for years of valuable coverage.
On that note, it should come as no surprise that dogs and cats are also more prone to having multiple pre-existing conditions. Because we cannot cover pre-existing conditions (like most pet health insurance providers), we strongly recommend signing up pets as early as possible in life to ensure you get the most out of their coverage.
